The most common bee are the Honey bee, Bumble bee, Mortar / Masonry bee. The Honey bee may exploit houses, where they tend to build their nest. This can prove to be a nuisance as up to 40,000 individuals can occupy any one colony. The individuals will sting humans, which can prove dangerous on people who are hypersensitive to the venom. Where possible the Honey bee should not be killed, as they are one of most important pollinators. They can be removed and relocated by contacting a local bee keeper, however if they pose a threat and become a big nuisance it is acceptable that they be removed by remedial action i.e. an approved residual insecticide. The Bumble bee often use old mouse, squirrel, bird nests as a there homes. They are a larger and a more distinctive colour (yellow and black), because of this this they tend to cause alarm when encountered, but needn't as they are quite docile and relatively harmless, they will only produce a sting when they are greatly provoked. Bumble bee workers can be slightly more aggressive and that is when treatment may be required. The Mortar / Masonry bee will tend to make their nest in poorly maintained brickwork on the south facing part of the building around a chimney stack / pot. Again these can be treated if they begin to pose a big threat and nuisance.
